Group A - Teaching Pool

Objectives:

Water Confidence: Getting face wet, blowing bubbles, floating (front and back). Sitting at the bottom of the pool, pick up objects from the bottom of the pool etc, leg kicking with floats (front and back) two floats then one float, leading to no floats.

Aims: Backcrawl with arms. Frontcrawl (both arms clearing the water). No breathing technique required.

Group B - Teaching Pool

Objectives:

Front and back glides, jumping in, sitting on the bottom of the pool, picking up objects from the bottom of the pool and floating. Leg kicking on the front and back with the floats. Arms (backcrawl and frontcrawl) practising with one float.

Aims: Backcrawl for one length of the shallow pool with arms. Frontcrawl with breathing (to one side) for one length of the shallow pool. Introduce breaststroke.

Group C - Main Pool

Objectives:

Main Pool Water Confidence: including deep water, jumping in and picking up objects at the shallow end (never force a child to enter deep water until they are ready to do so). Float work for front and backcrawl leg work and arm practice.

Aims: One length of the main pool for frontcrawl and backcrawl. Half length of main pool breaststroke.

Group D - Main Pool

Objectives:

Deep Water Confidence: Improve all strokes using floats for leg kicks and breathing exercises.

Aims: One length of the main pool for frontcrawl, backcrawl and breaststroke. Half length butterfly.

Improver 1 - Main Pool

Objectives:

Deep Water Confidence: Practise using floats, practise leg kick and arm action for frontcrawl / backcrawl / breaststroke. Starting with one length at a time, progress to two lengths of each stroke and correct breathing.

Aims: Two lengths frontcrawl, backcrawl and breaststroke. Half length butterfly.

Improver 2 - Main Pool

Objectives:

Stamina and stroke improvement: starting with two lengths of each progressing to four lengths.

Aims: Stamina and stroke perfection. Four lengths frontcrawl, backcrawl and breaststroke. One length butterfly.

Stamina and stroke perfection: starting with four lengths progressing to six of each stroke.
