Inspire Swim School - Assessment & Re-enrolment Procedures

Assessment and re-enrolment weeks form a vital part of our Swim School. Below is a step by step guide of how it works.

On the second to last week of each term the pupils in groups A – Imp 3 will be assessed by the Swimming Development Manager and his team.

During the weekend at the end of the assessment week, the Courses team will input all those pupils staying in the same group back onto the register for that group, for the following term.

On the last week of term each pupil will be given an assessment slip by the teacher stating whether or not the child has moved up. If your child has stayed in the same group you may proceed straight to the till to pay, telephone from home or send a cheque before the payment due date (this is always the Sunday of the 1st week of the holidays).

If your child has moved up a class you will need to immediately go to the Customer Information/Re-enrolment desk in the refreshment area to book your child onto a class (failure to do this may result in the loss of their place).

Some important points to remember:

The assessments are not carried out by the swimming teacher, although the assessor may ask them their opinion on occasions.

It is important to let the children know that this is not a test that they pass or fail but is simply an assessment to see if the standard for the next group has been reached.

Please be aware that children progress at different rates and may sometimes get ‘stuck’ in a particular group for several terms – this is quite normal. The pupils are assessed against set criteria for each group.

Please be aware that we have many years of experience in swimming teaching and coaching and the assessment team are highly trained in stroke technique and analysis skills.

It is certainly not in the interests of the Swim School to hold a child back in a group (due to our extremely long waiting lists). We will however, not move a child up unless we feel that they are ready and will benefit from the next group.

It is important to understand that whilst they may be the most accomplished in their particular group, that does not always mean that they are ready to progress on to the next one.

We are aware that a lot of children in our A and B groups swim in the main pool when they come along with a parent but, again, this does not always mean that the technique is correct and when assessed, they may still be put in a shallow pool group.

Please be aware that we can only guarantee days and times if your child has stayed in the same group. If they have moved up it may be necessary to change either the day or time or maybe even both. This is unavoidable as obviously sometimes during assessment week a whole group does not move up and therefore no spaces become available for the following term.

Please note that failure to attend on the assessment week will mean that your child misses their assessment for that term. They will therefore automatically be re- enrolled for the same class (same day and time) for the next term.

Due to the sheer numbers on our lessons (4000 people per week) assessments can not be carried out during the re-enrolment week.
